About the random number order generator

A number order generator is for a particular set of numeric entries: ticket numbers, station numbers, question numbers, or IDs. It keeps the supplied entries and randomizes their positions. This is different from picking random integers between a minimum and maximum, because missing numbers are not filled in and no additional values are created.

How to use the number order

  1. Enter at least two numeric values on separate lines, or select Comma for a comma-separated list.
  2. Choose whether identical entries should be removed. Keep New line selected if your entries are separated by line breaks.
  3. Click Shuffle numbers. Review the result and export it with or without position numbering.

Number order example

One possible result is shown below. Your result will vary.

Input

10
25
40
100

Example result

1. 40
2. 10
3. 100
4. 25

Only the four supplied numbers appear. The tool does not insert 11–24 or other numbers between the entered values.

When to use it

Question and exercise order

Mix a chosen set of question numbers without including questions you do not want to assign. Keep a copy of the original selection for comparison.

Stations and numbered activities

Randomize a list of station or activity numbers to decide their running order. Every entered position remains represented in the result.

Numeric labels and identifiers

Reorder numeric labels when their values should not determine priority. Entries are preserved as text after numeric validation, including leading zeros.

Options and input rules

Numeric input
Every entry must be interpretable as a finite number. Use a decimal point for decimals. Comma mode treats commas as separators, not thousands or decimal punctuation.
Preserved formatting
An entry such as 007 retains its spelling. Duplicate removal compares strings, so 007 and 7 remain distinct even though their numeric values are equal.
Output numbering
The small position numbers are separate from your values. Disable Number results when copying a raw numeric list to avoid confusing positions with entries.

How the randomization works

The tool uses a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues() source. It walks through the list and exchanges each entry with a randomly chosen eligible position. The settings for this tool then determine how the shuffled entries become an order, selection, or set of assignments.

Entries and results stay in this page’s memory. This site does not upload your input or keep a saved history. A new generation replaces the displayed result; copy or download anything you want to keep before reloading or leaving the page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I shuffle every number from 1 to 100?

Use the Number sequence tool with Start 1 and End 100. It creates the entire range for you. This page expects the numbers to be supplied as input.

Can I enter negative numbers or decimals?

Yes. Finite negative values and decimal-point numbers are accepted. They are moved as complete entries without rounding or arithmetic changes.

Why are repeated numbers still in the result?

The default preserves every entry. Enable Remove duplicates to remove identical strings. Different numeric spellings, such as 1 and 1.0, are not treated as duplicate text.

Can I pick just a few numbers from a range?

Use the Number picker. It generates a requested count from an inclusive range and lets you choose whether values may repeat.
