About the random decision wheel

A decision wheel turns a list of choices into a visual random selection. It is useful for choosing an activity, a meal, a name, or a creative prompt when you want to see a spin before the answer. The selection is made using the browser’s random source; the wheel then rotates to place the selected segment at the pointer.

How to use the decision wheel

  1. Enter between 2 and 20 choices, one per line. Use short labels to keep the wheel readable.
  2. Check the separator setting and remove duplicate choices if each distinct option should receive one segment.
  3. Click Spin the wheel. Read the selected choice below it, then copy or download the result.

The wheel chose
Tacos

Four unique entries receive equal chances of one in four. The wheel does not prefer the first option in your input.

When to use it

Food and activity choices

List the options everyone is willing to accept, then spin once. Decide on any exclusions before using the wheel rather than editing the result afterward.

Classroom and group prompts

Pick a discussion topic, a short activity, or a person to begin. Entries remain available for another spin unless you remove them manually.

Creative challenges

Choose from writing prompts, drawing themes, or game challenges. Keep labels concise and put any detailed instructions in a separate document.

Options and input rules

Wheel size
The wheel accepts up to 20 entries. Lists with more than eight use numbered segments and a key below the wheel so labels remain readable.
Equal chances
Each entry has one equal share. Repeated labels create multiple entries for the same wording unless duplicate removal is enabled.
Weighted decisions
This wheel does not accept numeric weights. Use Weighted picker when you want different options to have explicitly different probabilities.

How the randomization works

The tool uses a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues() source. It walks through the list and exchanges each entry with a randomly chosen eligible position. The settings for this tool then determine how the shuffled entries become an order, selection, or set of assignments.

Entries and results stay in this page’s memory. This site does not upload your input or keep a saved history. A new generation replaces the displayed result; copy or download anything you want to keep before reloading or leaving the page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove a choice after it wins?

Edit the input to remove that entry before spinning again. Selected choices are not removed automatically.

Can I give one option a larger segment?

This wheel gives each entry an equal segment. Use Weighted picker for explicit proportional weights and a text result.

Is the spinning animation what determines the winner?

The browser selects the result first, and the animation rotates to that segment. Reduced-motion settings shorten the animation without changing the selection process.

Can I import a wheel or share a saved link?

No. This version accepts pasted text and exports the chosen result. It does not save wheel configurations or create shareable wheel links.
